It was a great week last week for Canterbury schools as our representatives in the NZ Cricket Cup (Boys) and Sheild (Girls) both won their respective National Finals.

Early in the week Medbury School kept their nerve in their final game to be beat the previously unbeaten Hereworth School from Central Districts (both teams pictured above) with a excellent defensive effort to defend a modest 120 total.  The team fielded well and Hereworth came up short by 22 runs.  The other team that finished the tournament with a 3-1 record Kings School (Auckland) also won on the last day but had significant work to improve their run rate and couldn’t do so and ended up 3rd behind Medbury & Hereworth.

In the girls Shield Heaton Intermediate were totally dominant for the entire tournament winning all their games.  Tawa from Wellington were 2nd with Balmacewen from Dunedin 3rd.

This is the 6th time in 9 years that Heaton have won the title and the first time Christchurch schools have won both titles in the same year since Heaton won both titles in 2016.
