Winter Training Information
The CJCA is pleased to release details of the 2020 Winter Training Programme.
Firstly the good news we have been able secure enough space at the New Zealand Cricket High Performance Centre to run the entire programme indoors – this though comes with some challenges as we have only been able to gain space on a Saturday afternoon so those children playing winter sport will need to double on every 2nd week with winter sport in the morning and then a 90 minute cricket session later in the day.
As in the past we have scheduled the Year 6 youngest group to be the first training group from 1pm until 2.30pm, they will be followed by the Year 7 group from 2.30pm until 4pm and then the Year 8’s will be from 4.30pm until 6 – this allows for slight overruns of the first 2 groups and then a short break for any of our coaches who may be delivering all day.
This order hopefully reflects that the youngest winter sport games are generally first up on Saturday mornings so there will be time (albeit tight) for players to get from their winter commitments to their cricket training.
Given the window of bookings we have secured the 2020 programme is slightly shorter than the 6-week 2019 programme but will still provide an opportunity for a solid programme to be delivered. We may attempt to add on some additional sessions either indoor or outdoor in the school holidays before the onset of the season but the general aims of the programme should be able to be addressed in these five 90 minutes sessions.
The coaching will be led by a head coach for each group with another paid coach assisting. Any CJCA parent coaches who are present are encouraged to actively assist the paid coaches in the delivery of the sessions, those who have pro-actively done this have added to an already positive learning environment by freeing up paid coaches to work on more technical aspects of technique that can be identified and corrected if needed.
TIMETABLES
Squads will train every 2 weeks so it will be Week on – Week off. The first Saturday is the last weekend in July and we will run for 10 consecutive weeks.

Please identify the squad that suits and proceed to the Registration form and complete – we will be monitoring registrations and may be able to increase squad sizes slightly if possible.
COST
The cost of the programme remains at the same per session rate of $25 meaning the cost per players is $125 for the complete programme. In order to maintain a good player to coach ratio we are initially limiting the squad sizes to 12 but this may be reviewed as the number of squads we are offering in 2020 are reduced from last year.
REGISTERING
Registrations will open at noon on Friday the 19th of June and are first in first served. The registration system will only permit 12 per session initially. I’ll review initial registrations after the first weekend and any adjustments that might be needed. As there are only 48 spots per year group, I suspect these will be in high demand given we had around double that number in the Summer Tournament.
PAYMENTS
Payments should be made by the start of the Programme –

The CJCA feels that the comparative cost and value of the programme is in line with other junior sport offerings but if there are families that need assistance please don’t hesitate to get in touch and the CJCA will tell you what you need to apply.
There will be similar support offered for both Club/School memberships and also for Tournament and Festival Fees.
We also have two other support packages for Clubs that will announced shortly these aim to retain as many players as we had in 2019/20, with recruitment being a secondary consideration in this difficult year.
