The 2024 Boys Summer Festival will be held on the 18th & 25th of February and the 3rd of March 2024 from 10am.

This Summer Festival will only feature matches for the new crop of Year 7 and 8 players – the year 6 Programme will commence with the CJCA Pre-season programme leading into the 2024/25 season and be followed by the SPRING FESTIVAL for all three year groups.

Only brand new players are required to be assessed – existing players may be invited to provide enough bowling for any new players – these sessions will take place at the Sir Richard Hadlee Centre on Sunday the 11th of February at 12noon for BOTH Year 7 players and Year 8 players.

ONCE TEAMS ARE ANNOUNCED THE FESTIVAL FEE OF $75 IS PAYABLE BEFORE THE START OF THE EVENT –  Please do not pay any fee until teams are confirmed.  For Players not playing all 3 days the fee will be $25 per day.

The objectives of these Festivals are to provide ALL Boys and 6, 7 and 8 Boys the opportunity to have fun and develop their skills at a higher level of cricket than they may get access to via Saturday cricket – all current ability levels are welcome to enrol.

ASSESSMENT FOR ALL YEAR 6 (2023) PLAYERS AND NEW YEAR 7 AND 8 PLAYERS WILL BE HELD ON SUNDAY THE 15TH OF OCTOBER.  These assessments are an opportunity for grade convenors and others to create even teams for the festival and ensure all teams have sufficient wicket keepers and a variety of bowling types in each team.

The venue for these assessments will be the Sir Richard Hadlee Centre at Hagley Oval and will run between 12noon and 3pm – Players may register from mid August and choose a ONE HOUR slot where they will be do some batting and bowling.

BOYS – The 2023 Boys Spring Festival will be held on the 29th October, 5th and 12th of November 2023 (a Reserve Day of 19th November may be required to be used)

GIRLS – The 2023 Girls Spring Festival is currently planned to take place on Sunday the 26th of November and 3rd of December at St Albans Park.

Further details on the Girls Festival will be available in due course.

Those not selected for the Tier 1 teams who will play in Christchurch in 2024 are still able to participate in Festivals to be held on the same dates (8-11 January 2024) at either Mandeville (North Canterbury) or possibly the West Coast or Buller – these Festivals attracted a total of 16 teams in 2021, 22 teams in 2022 and 14 teams in 2023  so there is still some great cricket to be part of – players will be able to register for consideration in these January Festivals from the 9th of September and will need to indicate if they wish to participate by the middle day of the Spring Festival (6th November).

Year 7 players (2023) will be able to participate in the 2nd Tier Festivals as Year 7 teams and Year 6 players will be able to participate in a Festival for CJCA players in January 2024 to be hosted at Mandeville, Ohoka, North Canterbury – in 2023 this was combined with teams from Canterbury Country and other Districts and was held just outside Christchurch at Mandeville in Ohoka in Mid January.

Current Year 6 players will have a Festival at Mandeville (Ohoka, North Canterbury) from the 15-17 January 2024 – nominations for this will open in September and close on the 6th of November.  This will be on 18m pitches with a blend of grace-period and non-grace period matches – teams are 9 a-side.

Girls

The CJCA will announce details of its 2023 Girls Summer Festival late in 2022 – a new 3 tier approach is being trialled this year to attract as many girls from a wide of range current playing abilities to get together in a girls-only environment.

Games will be organised in March.

It is hoped that skills developed at this  Festival will provide players with added confidence to regularly compete at a high standard in their respective age groups and so increase their levels of enjoyment and commitment.

CJCA’s primary objective for these festivals is to provide all players with opportunities to further develop their skills further and enjoy playing with and against their normal teammates.

We will have three levels of competition in this festival,

• Incrediball Year 5/6s including new year 5s that may be coming out of Year 3-4 Cricket)
• Novice Hardball Year 7/8 can also include confident Year 6s.
• Competitive Hardball Year 7/8, including the new Year 9s.

THE COST WILL BE $15 PER DAY – WE WILL CHARGE THIS AFTER THE EVENT BASED ON ATTENDANCE AS WE SOMETIME GET WEATHER AT THIS TIME OF THE YEAR.

This festivals continues with the use of artificial wickets as we feel this is the best surface to enable their skills to develop. Many thanks to all the volunteers that offer their help. We simply could not run these festivals without you.
