2008 (45th) Westport

2007(44th) Oamaru

Fine sunny conditions on the first two days was followed by a rained out day on Wednesday - where each team received two points while the following two days were cooler. A very well run tournament with good playing conditions saw Christchurch Black the victor and unbeaten after a nail biting finish on the last day where Dunedin Metro threatened to upset the winner. The fielding trophy was picked up by Nelson for the 13th time. Mid Canterbury returned to Oamaru with 9 of their team from Nelson and were somewhat unlucky as they scored the most runs at the best rate (640 @ 4.05 RPO) and while they were unbeaten, two no result games left them stranded 3 points short of Christchurch Black. Buller beat Marlborough to secure it's first win at the tournament.

2006 (43rd) Nelson

Held at Greenmeadows on really well prepared pitches and grounds - and in fine weather, the Tournament was shared between Christchurch Black, South Canterbury and Canterbury Country.

2005 (42nd) Timaru

A week of cloudy, damp weather greeted 14 teams. Synthetic wickets were in constant use early on. Christchurch Black were worthy winners scoring at 41 runs per wicket and claiming 70 wickets at 7.48. They were the first team to claim 27 Tournament points. Late on the final day Marlborough had been celebrating their success, but in a dream finish by hat trick taker - William Mills turned the result in ChCh Black's favour.

2004 (41st) Dunedin

Ten outright wins kept the umpires busy. Nelson emerged winner ahead of Christchurch Red.

2003 (40th) Blenheim

Canterbury Country prevailed just ahead of Southland. Dunedin Metro gained it's 100th tournament win while North Otago and Buller missed out on a win. Otago gained three outright wins - a record at the time.

At Burnside Oval & Ilam Fields. Rained out on the Wednesday. Central Otago won by scoring at 25.6 and picking up 57 wickets. Nelson achieved it's 100th win.

Tournament was clearly won by Dunedin Metro in making 834 @23.82 rpw. & taking 72 wickets @ 6.57. Dunedin's coach Heneghan had played for South Canterbury at Gore in 1967.

Great weather and well prepared wickets greeted the 14 teams in Alexandra. South Canterbury was edged out of winning by Canterbury Country. On the second day, Nelson halted the Christchurch Red's successful run of 42 matches unbeaten (record.)

South Canterbury enjoyed a flying start and won easily. That team made 635 runs at 28.8 while they took 68 wickets at 8.78. ChCh Red endured four no result games but extended their unbeaten Tournament record to 41 consecutive games.

1996 (33rd) Westport

All games on artificial surfaces, some adequate but several strips a lottery. Smiling bowlers became overnight hat trick sitters. Form batsmen became mining experts while a pinch hitter prospered. South Canterbury and Canterbury Country shared the title after five days obtaining four wins each.

1995 (32nd) Oamaru

Christchurch Red scored a record 233 for 2 off 31 overs and went on to win the tournament - having been 31 tournament matches in a row unbeaten. This team scored 889 runs at 32.9 and took 70 wickets @ 8.8 rpw. Otago Gold was the 14 team. It was New Zealand's Cricket Centenary and badges were given to players and officials. The title "Metro" was added for the first time to Dunedin, Invercargill and Christchurch - the latter using evenly selected teams under the Red and Black banner.

12 teams competed using the 142 gram ball in six hour per game format. Central Otago won by scoring at 35.5 and obtaining 54 wickets at 14.25

After a rain shortened third day, four teams shared the title: Christchurch, Central Otago, North Canterbury & Nelson. Highest score of 152 from 145 from Craig McMillian was a record. Rachel & Naomi Wallace (twins) from Buller were the first girls included in the Tournament.

With West Coast pulling out, both Christchurch and Otago provided 2 equal teams to even the numbers for the Tournament held at Hagley Park - Christ's College grounds. Great batting conditions resulted in ten centuries being recorded. Otago's final signalled it's success, Richard Hadlee congratulating the team effort in the nor-wester. Craig Cumming scored a record 3 centuries

Tuesday was rained out in the tournament won by Christchurch but Southland A just failed to finish off Ashburton when it raced through 30 overs in the last hour and a catch going down in a mad-cap rush to finish.

After five thrilling days, any of six teams were poised to emerge. Nelson won this Tournament by making runs @ 21.27 and picking up 68 wickets @ 9.08. The Christchurch team became eliminated by Southland on the first morning when Jeff Wilson was unleashed, taking 6 for 27 in it's meagre 64. Jeff created a new record of 37 wickets at 7.29.

1984 (21st) Westport

In the lead up to this Tournament, Chris Cairns had moved up to Christchurch in the winter. As Captain, Chris ended his his 5 year SI Tournament reign of terror on opposing hopes. He continued several seasons ahead of his counterparts in all under-age level before being whisked over to Perth for his first Test Match. Christchurch duly won the Tournament. This tournament aw the first of the rotational draw over five days of play.

West Coast withdrew at the last minute which allowed ChCh A & B + South Canty A & B to maintain the 14 team format. The winner was Central Otago after a gripping final with Christchurch B. The tournament was "stacked" with talent.

Otago provided the 14th team while the Christchurch team made runs at 39.11 and took 54 wickets at 7.48 to win easily. It also racked up a record 335 for 8 off 54 overs. It was the late Bob Condliffe of Southland who arranged the excellent umpires.

Left handers scored heavily over the five days with Vaughan Brown scoring 123 not out on the first morning. Otago beat Nelson in the first of a limited over final - ending Nelson's run of 18 matches unbeaten.

NZ Cricket Coach Martin Horton spoke for over an hour and then fielded questions on the first morning of the SIT - due to a rained out session. South Canterbury became winners while other teams became bogged down in the five hour concept which lead to several no result games.

Held at Christ's College grounds in Hagley Park. First time teams from South Canterbury and North Otago. Out of town teams stayed at Ilam Halls of Residence. First day was rained out. Ashburton won on count back.

1963 (1st) Invercargill

Allan Gilbertson (Southland Cricket President) & Neville Hoskin (Founder) welcomed 8 teams: 3 from Southland, 1 each from Otago, Marlborough, Ashburton and 2 from Christchurch - each team manager sharing the umpiring. After 4 days, Marlborough was declared the winner. Play on the final day consisted of a South Island selection against a selected "The Rest".
