Canterbury B beat it's Canterbury A team in a limited over final. This Tournament singled the last of the eight ball overs and the start of a single extra point for an outright win. It also saw a record 42 players return from the previous Tournament.

Otago provided the 14th team while the Christchurch team made runs at 39.11 and took 54 wickets at 7.48 to win easily. It also racked up a record 335 for 8 off 54 overs. It was the late Bob Condliffe of Southland who arranged the excellent umpires.

Left handers scored heavily over the five days with Vaughan Brown scoring 123 not out on the first morning. Otago beat Nelson in the first of a limited over final - ending Nelson's run of 18 matches unbeaten.

Buller was welcomed at their first SIT appearance - on the St Kevin's College grounds at Oamaru. The Christchurch team had it's first win at the Tournament - at last!
