NZ Cricket Coach Martin Horton spoke for over an hour and then fielded questions on the first morning of the SIT - due to a rained out session. South Canterbury became winners while other teams became bogged down in the five hour concept which lead to several no result games.

Held at Christ's College grounds in Hagley Park. First time teams from South Canterbury and North Otago. Out of town teams stayed at Ilam Halls of Residence. First day was rained out. Ashburton won on count back.

Allan Gilbertson (Southland Cricket President) & Neville Hoskin (Founder) welcomed 8 teams: 3 from Southland, 1 each from Otago, Marlborough, Ashburton and 2 from Christchurch - each team manager sharing the umpiring. After 4 days, Marlborough was declared the winner. Play on the final day consisted of a South Island selection against a selected "The Rest".
