Christchurch Regional TournamentDates for these tournaments, held twice a year, are available here NOMINATIONS: Click here to nominate talented year 6, 7 and 8 Boys or year 5 to 8 Girls to trial for this tournament. Tournament Objectives:The objective of the CJCA Cricket Express Christchurch Regional Tournament is to have the best 48 players from Christchurch in each school year selected and play in four even teams. In any CJCA Tournament we seek to provide all selected players with opportunities to further develop their skills in higher levels of cricket. While the player mix will likely be adjusted to the team's winning strategy for each game, strategies deployed for the team's scheduled games will strive to have all players develop at least the skills they were selected for.
Different Conditions apply at these Tournaments for Girls and Boys. These are both detailed below.
BoysEligibility: Players must be competing in CJCA competitions to be eligible. Players who were acceptably unavailable such as through injury may be considered for selection in CJCA Tournaments or representative teams. School year is as applies at the time of the Regional Tournament. Grade Managers: A Grade Manager is appointed for each grade of cricket while these Grade Managers are also aligned to each school year category for the Tournament as follows.
For each Tournament: Four even teams of 12 players for each of Year 8, Year 7 & Year 6 players to be selected based on ability shown in trials, and ability recognised by selectors in previous performances. Each group of 4 teams to be named after one of the following CJCA greats. That is the…
Nomination Process:An open invitation is made for coaches and/or parents to nominate players here. (Non online nominations are not available.) Nominations will be coordinated centrally while trial times / dates will be advised here.
Trials:Trials are conducted at the CCA Centre of Excellence at 23 Iverson Terrace, Christchurch. Grade Managers will attend with their assistants (Grade Manager appoints) and have available the information supplied on the nomination form for each player. Additionally, selectors will consider results for players in the preceeding season. At trials, players will register their attendance and receive a number bib and will have an opportunity to bat and bowl. Wicket keepers will also have an opportunity to demonstrate.
Selections:Convenor of Selectors is Andrew Reid. The convenor has the final decision on all selections. Selected players will be placed into evenly selected and balanced teams. The Grade Manager will appoint normally one coach for each of the four Tournament teams. The Grade Manager will normally be one of the assistant selectors.
Tournament Conditions:Games start at 1030, Boundaries: Year 8 – 45m, Year 7 – 40m, Year 6 – 35m; Balls: Year 6 = 136 gram leather balls Year 7 & 8 = 142 gram leather balls; Max 2 extra balls per over. Batsmen are retired at end of over in which they faced 30% of the legitimate balls (not wides or no balls) to be bowled in an innings. Retired batters can only return when batting order is complete. Helmets – normal CJCA rules apply.
