Representative pathwayStep One:Boys Eligibility: School Year 6, 7 & 8 Boys must register and play in Step Two:Any person can nominate an eligible player to be trialled for selection into the Christchurch Regional Tournament which is held in November and then again in February/March each year. Nominations are all submitted online (see button to the left) and have a cut of date & time approximately one week prior to the trials. Also refer to the Season Calendar in the When and Where section of this site.) Step Three:Central trials of nominated players occurs at the Canterbury Cricket Association's Centre of Excellence at 23a Iversen Terrace. This process lasts for 1 hour for each player. Players are assessed for the skills they are nominated for - normally both as a batsman and a bowler but possibly also a wicket keeper. We will provide drills to assess fielding skills although players will not be selected solely as fielders. Successful players are announced at 5pm on the Sunday following the trial. The trial process involves a Lane Coordinator who compiles notes Selected players are allocated into even teams for the Cricket Express Christchurch Regional Tournament which will have a balance of Pace, Medium, Spin, Keeper/s and Batsman and all-rounders. Step Four:Selected players play in the Cricket Express Christchurch Regional Tournament at Ilam Fields. Refer here for dates and here for playing conditions and format. The main purpose of the Tournament is to provide all selected players with opportunities to further develop their skills in higher levels of cricket. While the player mix will likely be adjusted to the team's winning strategy for each game, strategies deployed for the team's scheduled games will strive to have all players develop at least the skills they were selected for. Step FiveAll Year 6 boys attending the November Regional Tournament will also be invited to participate in their selected teams (Astle, Cairns, Fleming, or Hadlee) in Canterbury Country's Mandeville Tournament in mid January in Mandeville Step Six:Selected "Representative" teams (December) play matches described here. |
a CJCA Club or School Team (in Saturday morning competitions) 
against a pre determined format + our Convenor of Selectors or his/her appointee oversees the lanes being used + we have a person undertaking the fielding assessments. Collectively these people take all information available at the trials + consider past performances in Club / School teams or previous tournaments and make their decisions.
