CJCA Objectives

To promote, develop, manage and control junior cricket and control junior cricket and representative matches for children up to and including school Year 8 level. Undertake and carry out such other purposes in respect of cricket for children up to and including school Year 8 level under the control of the Canterbury Cricket Association as may be assigned by that Association.

To assist and cooperate with the Canterbury Cricket Association and Christchurch Suburban Cricket Association constituent clubs in the promotion and advancement of the game of cricket in Metropolitan Christchurch, particularly among children up to and including school Year 8 level. (Note: In these objects the school year shall be as at 1 September of the year in which the season commenced.)

Grade Objectives:

Each grade will provide players a fun, fair & learning game with a connection to International cricket as close as the age group, player abilities & time allow.

Tournament Objectives:

The objective of Regional Tournament is to have the best 48 players from Christchurch in each school year selected and play in four even teams. Additionally (and also for Representative Matches), we seek to provide all selected players with opportunities to further develop their skills in higher levels of cricket. While the player mix will likely be adjusted to the team's winning strategy for each game, strategies deployed for the team's scheduled games will strive to have all players develop at least the skills they were selected for.

CJCA Goals:

  • Increase numbers of Junior Cricket Players by 30% from 2005 to 2008
  • Provide equipment to encourage higher quality Cricket in a manner that benefits all junior teams.
  • Increase by 30%, number of qualified coaches & players gaining “professional” coaching in 2005 to 2008
  • Increase number of girls only teams by 30% from 2005 to 2008
  • Be widely recognised as a proactive Junior Cricket Association

Actions:

In support of the above Aims and Goals, the CJCA has embarked on a program to install 40 artificial pitches in the greater Christchurch area. We've observed that no Primary or Intermediate schools in our area have been able to provide a quality grass pitch for the pupils to practice and play on. Perhaps the most essential of all ingredients to the improvement of batting and bowling skills is to have a fair and even playing surface to play on.

In conjunction with the above, we're working closely with the CCA and schools to encourage greater participation at junior level. In particular, we seek to see a strong increase in the number of girls playing.

The number of players obtaining CJCA sponsored professional winter training has doubled this year. We've introduced Girls only teams into our Tournaments and will this year provide representative opportunities for them.

Grades of cricket have been adjusted to help ensure improved levels of enjoyment, participation, safety and learning.

We'd welcome feedback on how these changes have been received which can occur here.
