Medbury School from Christchurch couldn’t repeat their school’s victory of 2015 in the recent National Primary and Intermediate Cup finals held at Lincoln finishing 2nd to Aucklands Kings School who were unbeaten.

After dropping their opening game against a skillful Raroa Intermediate from Wellington the side rallied to record convincing wins against Tauranga Intermediate and Southland Boys High and greatly improved their net run rate.

In Round 4 they faced the unbeaten kings School from Auckland in a must win game and couldn’t defend a competitive 126 with the Aucklanders getting home with 4 overs and 7 wickets in hand.

There was plenty riding on their final game with traditional rivals Huntley School (Marton) and a solid bowling performance saw Huntley bowled out for 80 with Medbury chasing down the low total effectively to keep their net run rate healthy to claim 2nd place in the event overall.

Captain Nicholas Gibb had a great tournament and was named Player of the Touranment for his all-round performances with bat and ball and how he captained his side.
