Individually numbered they are now available, ready for framing for $90 each. The print comes on a white boarder - which includes the title - is 68cm wide and 48cm high while the print as shown is 62cm wide and 40 cm high. Contact here for details. (For those visiting CCA's premises in Iversen Tce, this print is framed and on display behind the reception desk.)
The book Canterbury Meets the Demon - the story of a forgotten cricket match, witten by
Brian Priestley (photo to the right) is available for $10 per copy. Contact here for details. This is a delightful book to entertain cricket people and anybody else who cares about the way Canterbury used to be. It is in 1878 and a mighty Australian cricket team approaches Canterbury at Hagley Park. Spearheaded by the legendary Fred Spofforth, this is very much the team that will one day humble England at the Oval. In front of the old and restored pavillion (as printured in the print above!), Canterbrury fielded a side containing a bank manager, a storekeeper, the headmaster of Christ's College, a solicitor, a billards champion, a hero, and two of the most unusual brothers.....
Verteran journalist Brian Priestley has recreated a game from the early days of overarm bowling in a book that is far from a collection of dry statistics. He is also interested in the players, the society in which they lived, and the way they played cricket then.
