In the lead up to this 1984 Tournament, Chris Cairns had moved up to Christchurch in the winter. As Captain, Chris ended his his 5 year SI Tournament reign of terror on opposing hopes. He continued several seasons ahead of his counterparts in all under-age level before being whisked over to Perth for his first Test Match. Christchurch duly won the Tournament. This tournament saw the first of the rotational draw system introduced (something that lasts today!)
