CJCA Bond Red 76/7 beat South Canterbury 73 all out
Sam Whitaker 25*, Matthew Gill 3/5
Bond Red headed to Geraldine for a 40 over fixture against South Canterbury Invitational. The team was greeted with overcast conditions and a lot of moisture covered the grounds, but the cloud and fog soon gave way to warm sunshine and it stayed that way the rest of the day.
Bond Red won the toss and decided to bowl with opening bowlers Daniel Dadds and Kobe Stackhouse both bowling good initial spells. This was followed up by some awesome bowling from all the boys but in particular Carter Genet, Matthew Gill, Jack Harding & Nicky Thompson who all returned good figures. Matthew had the pick of the figures with 3 for 5 from his 3 overs. Bond Red really stood out as a fielding unit executing 2 great run outs and took 5 very good catches on their way to restricting South Canterbury to 73 all out after being 52/3 at drinks.
Lachie Shankland and Captain for the day Ryan Pringle (who was fresh off a hundred the previous day) got our innings underway but unfortunately Ryan was run out for one in the second over. Bond Red had a slow run rate for the first 10 overs, on the back of some very good tight bowling from the South Canterbury team and this led to Bond Red losing 4 quick wickets. Sam Whitaker and Zack Waite came together and steadily built a solid partnership of 34 that put Bond Red back in control of the match. Sam Whitaker top scored for Bond Red with an unbeaten 25 and was joined at the wicket by Adam Poumaka to take the team home to win by 3 wickets. Great team, great opposition and great day had by all.
CJCA Stead Black 160/9 beat Mid Canterbury 81/9
Stead Black batted first on a low and slow pitch at Hospital Corner which made quick scoring difficult. However as conditions improved so did the scoring rate and a challenging total was set. Ollie O’Loughlin and Matthew Quin top scored, both getting 29.
The bowling effort was steady throughout with wickets falling regularly and shared around the team. At 58/9 after 28 overs an early finish was in prospect however the last pair for Mid Canterbury defended resolutely surrounded by fieldsman and batted out the 40 overs.
CJCA McMillan Black 132 all out beat South Canterbury 51 all out
McMillan Black batted first on flat but low-bouncing wicket with longish wet grass in the outfield. Scoring was challenging, and a number of wickets fell to low bounces. Thomas McClean, Sean McClymont and Henry Eglinton scored well, riding their luck in places. We finished on 132 all out with about 3 overs left. We bowled much better than they did and some good catches were taken - they were all out for 51 off about 25 overs.
CJCA Stead Red 162 beat Country South 35 all out (played at Lincoln Domain)
We are delighted to report the team had an outstanding performance to comprehensively beat the Country South side. Batting first we scored 162 and then bowled the opposition out for 35. Our batsmen that came in after the 25th over realised their job was to increase the run rate and their display of batting for the benefit of the team was a credit to all of the middle and lower order. Batting highlights were Ryan Pithey 33 retired, Angus Sidey 41 and Max Smail 22. With the ball, Ryan Entwistle took 2 for 4 off 4, Zach May 2 for 5 off 4 and Jonty Raxworthy 2 for 6 off 3.
Our team was excellently lead by Nick Cooke and all players contributed in the field with their bowling and fielding. Our two wicket keepers Caleb Cottom and Tom Flavell were also outstanding.
This group of players has continued to develop and their understanding of the game continues to grow. A real pleasure to coach, and a great location to play cricket.
Country North 79 all out lost to CJCA McMillan Red 83/2
Played at the awesome setting of Mainpower Oval and the boys were given the Wizards locker room to get ready in. McMillan fielded a very strong team led by an excellent captain in Zak Foulkes. Despite the great stadium the pitch was uneven and had no grass on it and looked very dodgy. So North were asked to bat first.
North struggled and were bowled out in 22 overs for 79, the pick of the bowlers were Jaeden Hooper 4/6, Matt Boyle 2/11, Nepia Crowe 2/12. I also thought Jake Grove was very good, 0/4 off 4. Our Keepers Jaiden James and Sam Kreft were good and Zak was spot on with his captaincy .
In response the runs were cased down in 18 overs for the loss of only two. Sam Kreft 40* and Zak Foulkes 26* were stand outs.
Thanks to the parents for great support and their help.
CJCA Papps Red vs Country North - Mandeville (played under SIT rules)
Papps Red 164/7 drew with Country North 72/9
Papps lost the toss and we were put into bat. As we found out, the pitch played low and slow for the first half of the day, then turning into a placid batting pitch later in the game. Country North bowlers were accurate without being threatening.
Nicholas Lidstone batted very well throughout a long innings of 55 overs. He was unfortunate not to make his ton, getting out for 96. He applied himself very well in the conditions and set the standard. The top order didn't really get going other than Nick's innings. The middle order tried to pick things up in the last 10 overs or so. Papps Red made 164/7 in 3hrs 10min batting.
Papps Red got off to a good start with early wickets to Matt Munro and Ryan Sheehan. With a couple of run outs in the first 10 overs this saw Country North at 4 for 25. At that stage it appeared that the run chase had been given up. Duncan Kennett bowled well to pick up a couple of wickets as did Ben Hampton. Country batted out the rest of the time (34 runs scored in the last 30 overs). Papps needed a couple of wickets in the last hour (20 overs) but only secured one.
